CHRIST FULFILLED THE LAW WHAT THIS MEANS FOR BELIEVERS

Pod Prep CHRIST FULFILLED THE LAW, WHAT DOES IT MEAN FOR BELIEVERS?

CHRIST FULFILLED THE LAW BY PAYING THE PENALTY FOR US SO WE CAN BE MORE LIKE HIM

To fulfill a law, one must obey a law or pay the penalty for disobedience.  Christ fulfilled the Law by paying mankind’s entire penalty (death) for us.   In Matt 5:17-20 Christ answered His critics who accused him of violating the Law.  He told them in verse 17 ‘Think NOT I am come to destroy the Law, but to fulfill the Law´’.  Most worldly theologians assert that He did come to destroy the Law!  They use convoluted arguments to say his life’s work abolished the Law.   See verse 18.   He states that even the smallest jot, (which is a straight line) or tittle (which is like an apostrophe) will remain until the earth passes away.  Is the earth still here?  Then the Law is still standing.  Christ then goes on to say if one wishes to be praised in the kingdom of God one should DO and TEACH the Law.  Christ then spends the rest of Chapter 5 or the Sermon on the Mount to expand the Law spiritually and make it more binding not less.  Christ also fulfilled all of the Old Testament prophesies about the coming Messiah as well.  This would be reinforcing the O.T. not abolishing it.  II Cor 5:21 stresses that Christ died for us to pay our penalty for sins because we cannot obey the Law perfectly in the flesh.  He fulfilled the Law’s penalty for us.  Romans 2:13 AND Chapter 3 tells how Christ justifies us through faith but Romans 3:31and 6:12, 15 state emphatically that the process does NOT VOID the LAW.

THE NEW COVENANT PUTS THE LAW IN OUR HEARTS -THE OPPOSITE OF ABOLISHING THE LAW

God wants the process of conversion and repentance to make us more Christ like.  He wants it to make us more law abiding.  He wants us to repent of dead works; (disobeying God’s laws).  See Heb 6:1-2.  Paul tells us in Heb 8:10 that God’s goal is to put the law into our hearts and minds.  This is the opposite of abolishing the law for us.  He is applying Deut 10:16 and 11:18 to New Covenant Christians regardless of their circumcision state.  The true meaning of circumcision is circumcising your heart with God’s laws.  Paul in Heb 10:16 describe God putting His “Laws into their hearts and in their minds “.  See Jer 31:31 as well.   Further Romans 8:4 agrees and says that “the Law is fulfilled IN us who walk not after the flesh but AFTER the Spirit”.

TRUE LOVE IS THE FULFILLMENT OF THE LAW

The law tells how to love.  Love is the fulfillment of the law.  See Rom 13:8.  See Gal 5:13-14.  Treating others properly is what the law is all about see Matt 7:12.  Christ described in Matt 22:37-40 that the first parts of the Ten Commandments are about how to love God. The second parts are about how to love our fellow man.    He was referencing Deut 6:5.

MANKIND WANTS TO CHOOSE WHICH LAWS THEY LIKE

No one wants to abolish laws on stealing etc.  However laws regarding the Sabbath, foods, and statues, they want abolished.  This is not how laws work.  See James 2:10.  It takes insight to know how to use the law properly in the modern world.   See I Tim 1:8.  The Old Testament theocracy is no more, but the principles are good for us and society.  From the other side, the Judaizers were also misusing the law.
