JESUS CHRIST OUR REDEEMER

Some of The Most Important Roles of Jesus Christ

JESUS CHRIST OUR REDEEMER

What does the term redeemer mean? What did it mean when a family member redeemed someone who was in trouble in Israel? God designed laws of redemption for the Israelites reveal the meaning. When one of the family members lost his property or would be sold into debtors slavery, a family member could pay the price and redeem them or their property. They could be saved by the appropriate family member. They could be redeemed from dangerous situation as well. The redeemer could buy the family members freedom.

Leviticus 25:47-48 NKJV 47 'Now if a sojourner or stranger close to you becomes rich, and one of your brethren who dwells by him becomes poor, and sells himself to the stranger ...48 'after he is sold he may be redeemed again. One of his brothers may redeem him;

Your loved one could save you from enslavement by buying your freedom. Jesus can be our redeemer. God our redeemer who became Jesus later bought freedom for all Israel. Note Exodus 6:6.

Luke 24:19-21 NKJV 19 And He said to them, "What things?" So they said to Him, "The things concerning Jesus of Nazareth, who was a Prophet mighty in deed and word ... 20 "and how the chief priests and our rulers delivered Him to be condemned to death, and crucified Him. 21 "But we were hoping that it was He who was going to redeem Israel...

We know that the travelers were soon to learn that Jesus had risen and he did pay the price to redeem all mankind. The redemption process starts with the new covenant called out ones and later in the millennium, all mankind as people are baptized and repent.

Galatians 4:4-5 NKJV 4 But when the fullness of the time had come, God sent forth His Son, born of a woman, born under the law, 5 to redeem those who were under the law, that we might receive the adoption as sons.

Jesus lived perfectly and all of us need redeeming for our violations of the law. Sin is the breaking of the law and we all are sinners in need of redemption provided by Christ.

Titus 2:14 NKJV 14 who gave Himself for us, that He might redeem us from every lawless deed and purify for Himself His own special people, zealous for good works.

Jesus is the son of God therefore his life is worth more than all mankind. Thereby he can pay with his life the price to redeem or buy back from death all men.

JESUS CHRIST IS OUR HIGH PRIEST AND ADVOCATE

Satan is our accuser and Christ is at the right hand of God intervening as our advocate. Jesus was a flesh and blood human being. He understands what it is like to be tempted and feel the pressures of human life.

Hebrews 7:25-26 NKJV 25 Therefore He is also able to save to the uttermost those who come to God through Him, since He always lives to make intercession for them. 26 For such a High Priest was fitting for us, who is holy, harmless, undefiled, separate from sinners, and has become higher than the heavens;

He is speaking for us as our perfect advocate or high priest and is offering up prayers for us believers. The Devil our accuser says we are guilty of sin and should face the death penalty. Then Christ says Father this one is on Me, I will pay the price myself for these sinners. Jesus loves us and died for our sins.

Hebrews 9:11-12 NKJV 11 But Christ came as High Priest of the good things to come, with the greater and more perfect tabernacle not made with hands, that is, not of this creation. 12 Not with the blood of goats and calves, but with His own blood He entered the Most Holy Place once for all, having obtained eternal redemption.

Jesus paid the ultimate price for the penalty for our sins. Christ bought us back from death row. We are redeemed by Christ. He loves us so much that He paid the highest price for us. He took this very difficult death penalty for us, the crucifixion. The crucifixion was a terror weapon of the Empire. Read Hebrews chapter seven through ten regarding how Jesus is a greater high priest than the temporary human men who occupied that office. We must always appreciate that the Son of God came in the flesh to help us.

1 John 4:1-3 NKJV 1 Beloved, do not believe every spirit, but test the spirits, whether they are of God; because many false prophets have gone out into the world. 2 By this you know the Spirit of God: Every spirit that confesses that Jesus Christ has come in the flesh is of God, 3 and every spirit that does not confess that Jesus Christ has come in the flesh is not of God. And this is the spirit of the Antichrist, which you have heard was coming, and is now already in the world.

False prophets who wish to replace the real Jesus Christ with a counterfeit say He was not fully human or not fully divine. Both are incorrect. If He were not fully human and would not really feel the pain, His overpowering sacrifice would just be a game that would diminish the awesomeness of the sacrifice of both God the Father and God the Son. Further if Christ was not fully divine then His life was not valuable enough to pay the redemption price for all mankind.

1 John 4:8-10 NKJV 8 ...for God is love. 9 In this the love of God was manifested toward us, that God has sent His only begotten Son into the world, that we might live through Him. 10 In this is love, not that we loved God, but that He loved us and sent His Son to be the propitiation for our sins.

Jesus out of love is helping us to overcome the negative aspects of human nature as a good priest.

JESUS CHRIST IS OUR FINAL JUDGE AND HELPER

What is Jesus doing to help us overcome and grow? He is sending the Holy Spirit to beget and help all of us new covenant believers. Others will become part of this process in the future but for now it is for us.

John 16:7 NKJV 7 "Nevertheless I tell you the truth. It is to your advantage that I go away; for if I do not go away, the Helper will not come to you; but if I depart, I will send Him to you.

Christ ascended to the Fathers throne to act as our High Priest. Then he took control of the Holy Spirit of God and is directing and sending it to earth to help and comfort us.

John 15:26 NKJV 26 "But when the Helper comes, whom I shall send to you from the Father, the Spirit of truth who proceeds from the Father, He will testify of Me.

Think of Christ at a master spiritual control panel directing the powerful Spirit of God to impregnate and develop the believers in becoming more like him. God is not just helping us externally but internally.

Hebrews 8:10-11 NKJV 10 "For this is the covenant that I will make with the house of Israel after those days, says the LORD: I will put My laws in their mind and write them on their hearts; and I will be their God, and they shall be My people. 11 "None of them shall teach his neighbor, and none his brother, saying, 'Know the LORD,' for all shall know Me, from the least of them to the greatest of them.

Christ not only supplies the pardon or grace we need but also is our spiritual doctor helping cure carnality and selfishness.

Mark 2:17 NKJV 17 When Jesus heard it, He said to them, "Those who are well have no need of a physician, but those who are sick. I did not come to call the righteous, but sinners, to repentance."

Christ is in the process of healing those called now of sinfulness. Jesus also will in the future heal all mankind except for the defiantly wicked. Jesus at his second coming is going to rescue the world from the pernicious evil Empire and judge all mankind. He will rule in righteousness!

Revelation 19:11-16 NKJV 11 Now I saw heaven opened, and behold, a white horse. And He who sat on him was called Faithful and True, and in righteousness He judges and makes war... 14 And the armies in heaven, clothed in fine linen, white and clean, followed Him on white horses. 15 Now out of His mouth goes a sharp sword, that with it He should strike the nations. And He Himself will rule them with a rod of iron...16 And He has on His robe and on His thigh a name written: KING OF KINGS AND LORD OF LORDS.

Also Christ death and sacrifice has removed the barrier of our sins so that now we have direct access to the Father in heaven. Jesus will provide this access soon to all mankind. Christ is our advocate!

Luke 23:45-46 NKJV 45 Then the sun was darkened, and the veil of the temple was torn in two. 46 And when Jesus had cried out with a loud voice, He said, "Father, 'into Your hands I commit My spirit.'" Having said this, He breathed His last.

The Inner parts of the Temple which was a model of God's throne in heaven the Holy of Hollies was not open to all before tear. Now it is open to all to pray to the Father in Jesus's name. Jesus Christ has done so much for all believers.
